Before you start Zumba classes, or any other type of dancercise program, there are a few factors you need to consider, which are listed below. Some of these are more important than others, but all of them should be evaluated before you sign up and start attending classes.
- How Fit are You Right Now? – Your current level of fitness will dictate how much you can do when you start a new exercise program, and how quickly you will be able to progress. Taking the time to assess your current fitness levels thoroughly, including a visit to your local doctor if required will enable you to start your new dancercise program with realistic expectations.
- Existing Medical Conditions – If you have any existing medical conditions that could interfere with your ability to participate in aerobic fitness classes or you have any reason to suspect that you are not 100% healthy, you should of course consult a medical professional before you start Zumba or any other type of dance exercise program.
- Location of Nearest Instructor – If the nearest classes are many miles from your home, you may find it difficult to motivate yourself to attend on a regular basis. For this reason, it is a good idea to look into this particular factor at the earliest possible opportunity, and to explore the alternatives, such as following a Zumba instructional DVD at home or enrolling in Jazzercise classes, if you think the journey will be too much for you to cope with.
- Quality of Local Instruction – If you do find a local instructor, you need to make sure they are licensed and experienced, in order to gain the most benefit from your dancercise classes.
Whether you are thinking about starting Zumba classes or enrolling in a hip-hop aerobics course, all of the above factors should be considered carefully.
